A good quality matcha doesn't automatically equal a good cup of matcha. The techniques if whisking matcha is very important to ensure your matcha is used to its best ability.
The creamy microfoam, the velvety texture, and the way it feels like a warm embrace in a cup. Creating that gorgeous microfoam isn't always simple, but don't worry, we've got you covered!
This is the 30-20-10 Microfoam Method. Our go-to approach for consistently producing barista-level froth. Here's how to do it like a professional:
✨ 30 Seconds: Dissolve the Matcha
Begin with 4 grams of high-quality matcha (we recommend ceremonial grade for optimal taste and froth). Add only enough water(about 20-30ml) at 80°C to cover the powder.
Now, whisk with intention! To dissolve the matcha fully, use quick, circular movements for 30 seconds. This is the basis to ensure all the powder is dissolved and there are no clumps left.
✨ 20 Seconds: Froth it Up
It is time to make the most of your whisk. Change to zig-zag motions with your wrist, moving the whisk swiftly back and forth for 20 seconds. This action generates air bubbles, which begin to form the foam.
Pro Tip: Hold the whisk gently and allow your wrist to do the work, speed and fluidity are key here!
✨ 10 Seconds: Perfect the Microfoam
Now for the final touch. Use the whisk to gently stamp out any big bubbles from the surface. Then, whisk the top layer softly in circular movements for 10 seconds to smooth everything out and create that lovely, velvety microfoam.

Tips for Matcha Perfection
Quality Matters: A quality matcha makes all the difference. Ceremonial grade matcha has a finer texture and naturally foams more. which paired perfectly with our Hana Matcha poweder.
Temperature is Key: Use warm water (around 80°C). Too hot, and the matcha may burn; too cold, and the foam will not form properly.
The Right Tools: A traditional bamboo whisk (chasen) works great for making microfoam. When using an electric frother, keep the whisking technique in mind.
